Prevention and control of cervical cancer
Cervical cancer is globally the second most common type of cancer among women and virtually all cases are linked to genital infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV)
Diagnosing cervical cancer at an early stage and providing access to effective treatment can significantly improve the likelihood of survival.
Cervical cancer screening is usually part of a woman's health checkup. There
are two types of tests: the Pap test and the HPV test. For both, the doctor
collects cells from the surface of the cervix.
HPV vaccination is also recommended for everyone through age 26 years, if
not vaccinated already.
